Five offline RPGs that don't need a connection
Offline RPGs are getting harder to find as more games bolt on always-online systems. So we went digging for ones that keep everything local. The list surprised us — the offline crowd is often more generous with content, not less.
Emberfall Saga sits at the top for us, thanks to its grid combat and warm writing. But we also spent time with a couple of dungeon crawlers that ask nothing from your data plan and still deliver dozens of hours.
The common thread among the good ones is respect for your time. No stamina meters, no daily login rewards to guilt you back. You play when you want, for as long as you want, and the game waits.
If you travel a lot, having one solid RPG stored offline changes long trips completely. We packed one for a nine-hour train ride and barely looked up.
