The best puzzle games for a five-minute commute

June 24, 2026 · Mareike Vos

Not every game fits a short commute. Some take a minute just to load and log in. For a five-minute ride you want something that opens instantly and saves the moment you close it.

We tested a batch of puzzlers on the metro and judged them purely on how well they handle interruptions. The winners let you drop mid-board and return to the exact same state.

Tile and card puzzles did especially well here, since a single board is naturally short. Physics puzzlers were more of a mixed bag — great when they fit, frustrating when a level ran long.

Our advice: keep two or three short puzzlers installed and rotate them. Variety keeps the commute from feeling like a chore.
